I used one of these for a while and it wasn't bad. We had a few of them at work. Just make sure you check it against a known steady voltage when you get it. A few the batteries were weak and the voltages shown were off by 10%-20%. A couple others were off even with fresh batteries but there was a little potentiometer inside we adjusted to get them back where they needed to go.

Excellent advice. Also, keep in mind they are $2 meters. Some people expect the world of features for $0.01!

We use dozens of these at work. They're good, inexpensive meters.

It costs more to replace the 9-volt battery inside than to replace the meter!

but like I was saying. A lot of the meters come with weak batteries so that does you no good. We would measure a 120v outlet (measured with a nice expensive voltmeter) with these cheaper ones and got anywhere from 100-112 volts. Usually a new battery took it to within a couple of volts. And a few required further adjustment to the pot to get it where it needed to be. They were good for everyday use but really not good for some of the machines we worked on that required a very precise measurement. Still, they're worth grabbing a couple to have around the house. :)
