Bigger O/C 2.6 average to no O/C 2.8 I have a 2.8C and it doesnt O/C that well but as always there is no guarantee O/Cing any chip, some do well some dont no matter if you get the so called best O/C chip accroding to the numbers.

I like the Asus P4C800-E memory mild O/C good DDR3200 Mushkin is good for tight timings and performance Corsair Twinx also good but a little more relaxed timings and can O/C some to around 440 DDR at 1:1 for me when I tried it 220 FSB at 2 3 3 6.

if you are gonna OC i would just get the 2.6
Actually for overclocking 2.8C is better option since with 5:4 and 250FSB the chip will go 3.5 GHz on tight timings. And even if it is not capable of going that far it can do 3.2 GHz on 229 1:1, which almost any decent Canterwood/Springdale board can do.

For 2.6C 5:4 is the only available choice to go over 3.3 GHz.
Beside the difference is only about $50.

so it is worth the extra $$$? odds are that it wont do 3.5ghz, your second 1:1 idea is prolly more likely

Depending on who is buying. If you have planned to spend more than $200 on the CPU you could as well consider $260. At least you certainly wouldn't need extra heatsink or top notch motherboard to get to 3.2 GHz.

get the 2.6c and get 1gig of corsair value select thats certified to run dual channel. runnying 265fsb and my ram at 215 on an IC7. although temps seem to be screwy on the IC7. 60C on load
