2.66 p4 posting as 2.74

I don't know much about overclocking or votage and fsb ajustments, but I just built me a new system with a 2.66 p4 and a MSI GNB Max (granite Bay Chipset) and in the system properties and bench marks it says the CPU is running ar 2.74 😀, does anyone know why? I haven't adjusted anything. I even reset the bios to defaults. Has overclocking become so popular that motherboards and CPU come stock overclocked?:disgust: Just wondering what was up. Kevin

run WCPUID or sisoft sandra to see what your FSB is set to... board might automatically go over-FSB but that is not commonly the case

sounds like the FSB is overclocked a little. 2.74GHZ with a 20X multi gives an FSB of 137MHz. The BIOS sensors generally round up so its not uncommon to see readings like 134 or 135MHz. Seems like some "Top performance" feature might be enabled in the BIOS. Try clearing the CMOS and see if the right clock speed registers.

I have cleared cmos, and have manual set fsb to 133. My board has a "proformance default" setting but I choose to load the normal setting. I guess I shouldn't complain about getting a little more proformance I just don;t want to cause any undo stress on the rest of my parts. I paid to much for this stuff to have it over worked.

if you are worried lock the pci/agp into spec and there will be no added presure

an extra almost 100mhz for the cpu is easily doable wihtout causing much/any grief..no worriez

Like I said to start I'm don't know much about OCing, what is looking the PCI/AGP into spec?

I ran WCPUID and it says my Multiplier is 20 and FSB is 136.82!!! My Bios says it is 133, I went back in and manually set it to 133 (which is it's minimum) and I still get 136.82 out of it. Is this a good thing? I guess MSI is giving the people what they want.

go into the bios, and see if you can find a section on PCI/AGP...its probably set to "auto" right now
when you push enter on it, you wil get #'s like 33.3/66.6 and onward...set it to 33.3/66.6 and its locked into spec

its probably just msi overclocking by defualt...asus overvolts (and kinda oc's) but msi it seems like takes the cake for that one lol
