I'm presently building a home entertainment system which will be hooked up to a RCA 36" Digital TV. Specs for the system are as follows:

Aopen HX95 ATX Desktop Case

400 watt PSU (changed the stock 80mm fans with 2 Vantec Stealth units

ASUS P4B533-E Mainboard

512 Corsair XMS 3200 cas2

2 WD 120JB Drives

ThermalRight AX-478 Heatsink

Radeon 9700

LG CDR-DVD 4320B 32X10X40X16

Netgear 802.11A wireless

Thinking about adding a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum in the future But I need a processor NOW!

Looking at the two P4's - I'm thinking the 2.5 has more potential to overclock than the 2.53 because of the high multiplier and lower operating Mhz. Any suggestions? Or would the heat generated from overclocking either one of these require a too noisy fan to be acceptable?

Read other threads floating around on this....

Unless the 2.5ghz (25x100) can oc like 200mhz more the better performance in any ocing will lie with the 2.53ghz p4b chip...The higher fsb will lead to a higher overall system fsb and bandwidth as well as with current intel 845-e chipsets and 3:4 RATIOS applied will give you the higher the ddr speeds which will give better performance. You will likely never get to use the power of the pc3200 with the p4 2.5(25x100) and i845e mobos...

Make sure you get a mobo that locks the agp/pci as you most likely can not hit 133fsb to lock them down with the 1/4 pci divider...At 120fsb and above the pci will hit 40 and above and most harddrives do not like this...

Darn... I bought the 2.5GHz (100x25.0) and it should be here tuesday. From what I've been reading, I may be able to get the 3:4 memery multiplier to work offsetting the Ghz fsb reduction with this ASUS P4B533-E board. Anyway, I'll tinker around with the box for a couple of weeks prior to installing it. Just to be sure everthing is OK. I'm also reading Tom's Hardware Guide on that 3.6 Ghz P4. Sweet.

Just received the CPU today. I'll install it tonight and see how far it'll go. It has the C1 stepping I keep reading about. Whats that all about?

Here we go!!! 120FSB equals 3.0 Ghz!! Not bad for a quite air cooled P4. Locked in the PCI/AGP busses at the standard rating and this thing runs.... 29C (84F) @ 1.6 Core voltage. Gotta Love It!!!!
