Hello

I am about to get a SL6S2 2.53gig C1 cpu - the Intel SPec Sheet tells me that the cpuvoltage is 1.53v.

I am only going to use the Intel Heatsink and Fan - I like thier "quietness" - the only mod I do is to remove the thermal pad and use some artic silver.

My question is given that I will be using the Stock Intel H/S and fan, without the thermal pad but with some artic silver paste:-

=> how far over 1.53v can I *sensibly and safely* go should I need to increase the cpu voltage to maximise my FSB overlcock ?

Retail box SL6S2.. Hmmmm... Where are you purchasing it from? I suggest under 1.65V with the retail HSF. Keep a close eye on temps the best you can. (Depending upon your mobo) Many SL6S2 CPUs are capable of high FSB speeds. If you really want to push it, do yourself a favor and purchase a high-end HSF. ;)

EDIT: To start, set the VCore @ default and see how far it goes. Chances are that you will get pretty far @ default and not need to raise the VCore at all.

I've seen some reports that say increasing the vCore on these chips hasn't gained them much more in terms of MHz. The default vCore is all that was needed. Like Technonut said, watch those temps like an eagle if you're using the retail heatsink/fan. You wouldn't want to burn up $200 worth of processor in under 30 seconds!

I would say ~ 2.8 - 2.9 GHz max with stock Vcore. If you want to go higher, you will need a bigger HS/F. As far as noise goes, the stock HS/F is "fairly" quiet. I'm using an Alpha 8942 with a Panaflo L1A 80mm fan. This setup is VERY quiet.
