Giddy up... I jumped on the Fry's/Outpost.com bandwagon and got my 2.53 sl6s2 in yesterday. Slapped it in and went straight to 183mhz FSB at default voltage! I've not had a chance to run a battery of test on this thing yet (ala THUGS format), but I did get in 18 hours of prime95 and 4 or so hours of looping 3dmark and all is well.

**UPDATE** Benchmarks now included.

TEST SYSTEM
Gigabyte 8INXP (BIOS F4)
2GB of Samsung PC2700 (4 x 512)
H20 Cooled | Koolance CPU-200G w\ Aquarious II Pump and Radiator
ATI 9700pro 128mb Retail | 400core/720mem | Cat 3.2 Drivers w\ soft mod to 9800pro
Antec TruePower 550watt PS
4 x 80GB WD 7200rpm 8mb cache drives
Creative SB Audigy 2
WinXP Pro / SP1a
*** All onboard items disabled except for the LAN ***

NOT Tested - My UT2003 Disk is gone :( and no broadband here to download the demo.

I don't know what's more impressive... the chip & mobo, or the 4 sticks of Samsung PC2700's, OR stuffing 4 HD's in a LanBoy... :Q;):Q

LOL :)

I'll be the 1st to admit that I am *very* surprised that this mobo is stable at 183 fsb with 4 sticks of PC2700. As for the HD's, it gave me a good excuse for ditching the 3.5 floppy and zip. All in all, the intallation in the LANBoy came out very clean. I was a bit leary going from an Antec 1040 tower to the LANboy, but a little planning and some careful cable routing paid off.

Nice.... :) These SL6S2 Multi-VID processors are where it's at for some good old fashioned OC'ing huh? :D

You got it buddy... you'll be happy to know that it is your thread on the SL6S2 that inspired me to take the leap :)

Going to hit the town and party like a rockstar tonight... providing the ole' head isn't throbbing too bad on Sat... I'll run the battery of benchmarks THUGS style and report back the results.

On a side topic... are any of you Granite Bay Owners noticing a very hot NB at higher FSB speeds (i.e. above 166)? Mines getting pretty toasty. I'm giving serious thought to ordering a koolance chipset H2O block.

Another side topic... how many of you guys that got chips from Outpost.com had bent pins? When I got my chip yesterday it had bent pins left and right... nothing I couldn't straighten out, but it was still a little disturbing.

BTW, a small/medium sized paper clip works great to even out the pins on a P4. Just bend out one of the edges and run it through the channel with bent pins and it straightens them right out.

PM me your address, and I will send you one... No charge... :) I just happen to have 2 Koolance cases that I planned on joining into one unit, (1 original bottom cooling unit model / 1 recent top rad model) and have some extra blocks. ;)

EDIT: I guess I was lucky with no bent pins... :) I have heard of quite a few people receiving them that way. Outpost had better do something about it...

Thanks, Just read your thread, sounds like your doing alright too. :)

I'm tempted to take it further, but I know I'm going to be hitting the cieling very soon with either the RAM or MOBO.

I think you can hit 185 or 190 at least. ;)

For those of you that missed this... what we witnessed here was a shining example of why there is still hope for humanity.

Thanks again Technonut... your kindness is appreciated and won't be forgotten,

No kidding! Just when I was happy to FINALLY upgrade after a year and hit 3 GHz, I'm behind again. Oh well, I guess that is the way it goes.

It seems I've come to the right place. I just an 8INXP to base a new system on. I thought I might be crazy to want to buy the 3.06 Ghz cpu and Koolance system and overclock it. I'm kinda new to this end of the whole deal. The last time I worked on an overclocked system was when had to replace clocks add jumpers to the motherboard of the 80286 so it would run at 12 Mhz and that was for the military as a defense subcontractor..

Now I know I'm not crazy. I'll be looking for more info on this overclocking this system. I haven't been able to verify that it can handle a cpu faster than 3.06, but I'll put in whatever it can handle and see how fast it can be made to operate.

Building System with
Gigabyte 8INXP
1GB PC1066 Rambus
Sony Dru-500AX DVD+rw/cd+rw
dual Maxtor UATA 133 80Gb RAID 0 hdd
ATI 9800 graphics

I wouldn't go with RAMBUS if you plan on overclocking. Go with DDR and if you can afford go with DDR 400 at least.
