Is there such a thing as a 2.5" to 3.5" hard drive bay adapter that is available as a retail product? I have a Western Digital Raptor 300 that has an elaborate aluminum heatsink/bay adapter so that the 2.5" drive mounts in a standard 3.5" bay within my case. The adapter came attached to the drive when I purchased it.
I am looking at possibly purchasing a Seagate Momentus XT 500GB hybrid drive to use as the boot/program drive in my desktop. The review here on AT suggests that it should be a performance improvement over my Raptor in terms of boot time and program launch time. The price is significantly better than an SSD, plus the drive has a lot more storage space. The major drawback that I am finding is that they seem to generate a lot of heat. In order to counter this and keep the drive performing well at a reasonable temperature it seems that a heatsink/bay adapter should make a positive difference. Any thoughts?
