I was curious if I could use a 2.5" sata hard drive in a 3.5" sata case. It wouldn't be for a long time, just to clone a hard drive, but I'm trying to get out of buying a 2.5" case just to do this process. Are the hookups the same for the two different sized drives?

You would need a 2.5" to IDE adaptor that are really cheap on ebay.
If you were in the uk, I would send you one for the price of postage.

The 2.5" doesn't have a molex (power) connection and the IDE cable connection is different. I would also hook the 2.5" drive up to its own IDE channel to be on the safe side as there aren't usually jumpers on them.

**sorry - didn't read the post properly**

SATA, not IDE.

The connectors are identical, but are in a physically different location on the drive. Thus, the connection will fit but the mounting plate and holes probably won't.
