2.5" sata hdd - can it be used in desktop with PSU sata power?

same as topic.. Are the PSU sata power compatible with the 2.5" sata HDD (notebook hdd) ? Will it be over power(kill it) ?? I have one lying around and would like to put it in the desktop instead of buying an enclosure for it.

The interface was designed to be a standard. You can definitely use it.

I'm using a 120gb SATA laptop in my midtower HTPC. It works great.

look on the drive see if its 5v or 3.3 or less.
