Is the installation of software necessary with this or is the CD just for peeps with Win98 and such?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade my laptop's HD and stick the old one in one of these.

It's plug and play for WinXP. Win 98 and 95 need the drivers from the CD.
I upgraded my 4200 RPM hard drive with a 7200 PRM hard drive, so i bought this to have an external drive.
