Helping a friend with an iPad Gen3... this one can connect perfectly to 5GHz but not so on 2.4GHz. Looking deeper into the problems shows that the output power on the iPad seems very low i.e. if the iPad is put on top of the router it will connect, but loose connection if removed say 2-3 feet. BTW, the iPad do hear just as good as always on both bands. This is verified with an Agilent spectrum analyzer, signals aren't there but plenty strong with a iPhone4s.
So Apple refuses to say this is a known problem, but I see several reports on the web having lost 2.4G after updating (and still works on 5GHz).
Now what could cause this?? Writing something in a "not-supposed" register at the BMC4330 wifi chip that will not be cleared by system restore?? Or something made the chip self-destruct?
If it simply is a wrong value in a register, it should be pretty easy to verify by Apple and come out with a remidy... but they seem totally un-interested. The level 1 support makes one loosing the hair and whats left is turning grey
I am open for suggestions on this...
