2.4C & Asus P4B533 - tell me why this combination will **NOT** work ....

This is my theory ?..

? I cant see any reason why a 2.4C P4 [ 800fsb] would **not** work in a P4B533 board.?

There, I said it ? now let me explain.

The P4B533 can do as follows:-

- 200+fsb ? we know this from all those people who ran P4-mobile cpu?s at 200+ fsb in these boards
- it is socket 478
- it can do 1.50 or 1.525 or higher cpu voltage
- cpu multiplier is in the CPU, so that is no problem
- it has1:1 memory ratio or 4:3
- the bios can be set to ?User Defined? for CPU parameters
- we know that the 133fsb P4 CPU?s that were **NOT** supposed to work in the P4B266 boards **DO** happily work in those boards even though they are **NOT** supported in the P4B266 BIOS

The **only** thing missing from the P4B533 is that [presumably] its bios does not contain the appropriate CPU micro-code to correctly display the ?proper? CPU parameters in the BIOS ? I wouldn?t think though that this would be a ?blocker?

So I cant see **any** reason why a 2.4C [ or 2.6C or 2.8C or 3.0C ] for that matter would not work in a P4B533 board.

=> Am I missing a ?key? ingredient here ?

=> Can anyone here with access to a P4B533 & a ?C? series P4 try this out ? I figure the **worst** that could happen is that the board will simply not boot.

how about an extreme UNDER clock.. say set the fsb to 133 or 100, or will the voltage regulator effect that speed
just to see if she boots

So ...... isnt the voltage regulator *better* on the P4B533 than the P4PE ?

Reason I compare is that we know the P4PE also *CAN* and *DOES* run the new P4 "C" series cpu's.

Thoughts ?

umm...I'm running a 2.4c just fine on my p4b533.. granted my memory ratio is 5:4 and my FSB is lowered a bit but that is only because i still have pc2100 ram.

I'll be upgrading memory and mobo soon.
 
when it gets to certain mhz point the boards will no longer be able to keep up with the voltage required.

chances are a stock 2.4c will run. but trying to push any chip past 3.2ghz aint gonna happen easily.

the p4b533 cant run much past 220fsb anyways.

So what *exactly* IS the micro-code and WHAT is it for.

My understanding is that it is purely for correclty identifying a CPU at it's correct specs ?

Thereofre once you are running in "manual' or "user defined" mode, the micro-code is essentially irrelevant ?

micro-code is a sequence of stored commands in the CPU's rom that delivers permanent and continuous direction to the gates and pipelines in the CPU. The micro-code is responsible for sorting out processor functions, and altho they never change, they are the heart of the CPU's organization.
