I wouldn't say so. I would base your decision on which one has features you really care about versus how much it costs.

Either cpu is a good choice, but since the 2.6c has a multiplier of 13 instead of 12 you can overclock to the same speed with a lower FSB speed, which means you aren't pushing the memory or motherboard quite as much.

credit to Oldfart for being one of the more vocal proponents of the 2.6c advantage.

If your overclocking, get the Asus. That simple. The worst decision I ever made was getting the Ic7. Overclocked horribly, reads temps incorrectly, about as stable as a sky scraper in an earthquake. Not to mention there is the 255 FSB limit at 1:1 and the puny cooler on the MCH (NorthBridge). The Asus also has LAN. The 2.4C on the Asus will overclock better than the 2.6C on the Abit, not to mention the 2.4C has the best levels of FSB/mem divisors due to its 12x multiplier. If you get the Asus, consider adding a small quiet 40mm fan to the NB Hs.

EDIT: The Ic7 has all sorts of problems with low latencies, and I forgot to mention 2 important details:

One of the worst layouts I ever have worked with, only reedeeming factors are the DIMM/AGP clearance and to a lesser extent the ATX;

I am getting my 3rd one off of RMA.

Well, you got old version. That must have been some time ago or it was newegg refurbished. The newer IC7 as well as IS7 are shipping with a massive chipset heatsink. I doubt there is any board as overclockable as IC7/IS7, one just need to frequent oc forums to realize that. Except maybe for the Epox boards. P4C800 is certainly a good choice as well.

$10 for a NB cooler here.
You could also email Abit, some people got it from them for free.

I myself have so many Abit boards that if there is a choice about new board there is no a question for me. Abit of course. Only once I betrayed them on a chipset since all my KT266A were from Epox or Asus.
