2.4 Phone interfere with 802.11b router?

I am in the market for a new phone and was wondering if this is actually an issue because i don't want my new phone to interupt with my internet and online gaming. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks 🙂

There's the possibility but it's nothing to be worried about. We have 2 2.4 phones in our house, never had it mess up my wireless.

I've had the same experience they have. We have 3 2.4 ghz phones in the house as well as one Wireless Router and 5 devices off the router w/ very little interference (sp)

My parents got a new 2.4 GHz phone and then shortly after we picked up an 802.11b/g router and cards for everyone. While I was there helping them set it up, it would cut out when that phone rang or was in use.

This issue occurs with "spread spectrum" phones. Panasonic, SONY, and a few others have special types of phones that use this technology and they specifically say "Spread Spectrum" in the phone's features. Steer clear and you should be fine.

I had my d-link G router set on channel 11, and a 2.4ghz phone... would work great... until someone answered the phone... then the whole router would die... wireless would go down, and even my wired connection to my server would crash... soon as they terminated the phone call, everything came back up...

I'm now using a wired router in my house... 🙁

My friend in college had the same problem. Everytime he would answer the phone he would lose his net connection. Not sure of the make of the phone.

Yep, if you have problems just change the channel on the router. I had trouble on channel 6; changed to channel 11 and all was good.

And yes, it was a Sony phone (not sure about DSS).

Why not just switch to 900 MHZ or a 5.8 GHZ phone?

2.4GHz is also the same frequency as a microwave oven. If you have an ancient microwave that leaks radiation, it could cause interference.
