Pentium4 2.4Ghz 533FSB cpu can overclock really good with stock cooling?? That's what i heard from people but Im not sure . I wanan overclock it but Im afraid that it will burn my cpu in a week or by time.

I had my 2.4B running at just below 3100 MHz on a Vantec TMD cooler

probably would have run that high even with the stock HS!

I only have stock Intel cooling on the cpu, is that ok if i overclock my cpu? and when you overclocked, do you let it like that and use? or you set it back after playing a game or something???

if your computer satisfies your needs right now, i wouldnt bother overclocking it. In addition, if you dont really know anything about it (sounds like you dont know too much, no offense) then you probably shouldnt be doing it. That is jes my opinion. But to answer your question, you overclock it and test it extensively to make sure it is stable and adequately cooled, and then just leave it. Of course you can back it down at any time, but for day to day use you would leave it overclocked all the time.

good luck, and consider if you even need to overclock-

Butch is right, if you are unsure you should not overclock.

However, the 2.4 overclocks well, i hit 3ghz with the stock cooling and was running temps about 50c...
You can bump the FSB up slowy and test for stability (Prime 95, 3dmark) then go higher.

You may also need to bump voltages in the memory and CPU area.

Again, if you aren't very computer savy don't do it~ If you do, come here for more help!

Good Luck.

I know how to overclock, I overclocked it to 2700Mhz and 150FSB, and it ran stabled. But I put it back already. My question was that if it ran stable, should I use it as that because I heard overclocked can cause degrace in performance over time and the cpu won't last as long as it would.

that might be something like 5 instead of 10+ years.

So you guys just overclock your comp when it's stable, then just use it as that? You guys dont care about how it will affect by time??? or anything?

Lol the weird thing is when I overclocked my cpu to 2700Mhz and 150FSB (600FSB), I got a lower score in 3Dmark2001 than when it's at 2400MHz and 133FSB (533FSB), what is wrong with my comp?

Because your computer is throttling itself. Explain again why you need to overclock your CPU...Stop wasting your time running 3dmark and go do something with that computer...

I want to overclock to get a better benchmark score, but when I do it, the score got lower, what is going on?

The score is lower because you are getting errors. It sounds like you need to either slow it down or up the voltage. My Athlon XP 1700+ (1435mhz) runs at 215x11=2365mhz stable. When I surf the temp is around 39C.

Maybe I am wrong but I heard this happens sometimes if the cpu is making errors. It is clocked faster than it can handle.

It may appear stable,

Run Prime 95 over night, if you pass the 96k test raise the speed.

I have asked more questions on this forum than answering them but i have read a lot of what goes on between you geeks.
It seems to me that when you overclock the temperature of your cpu reaches above the temperature you have set in the bios for thermal throttling, which effectively runs it at a lower frequency than the rated one. This depends how much %age throttling you have set in your bios.

I cannot say for sure why your score is lower based on the info you have given, but I can say for sure it is not thermal throttling. The Intel Stock Heatsink does a very good job of cooling the CPU. For the performance to noise ratio, it is hard to beat. Although your CPU is getting warmer due to being overclocked higher, you should be getting nowhere near the thermal-throttling threshold, assuming your CPU fan is plugged in.

What kind of memory are you using? It could be your memory being overclocked too far, but usually you get an automatic restart when you push memory too fast.

Are you using a different memory ratio when overclocked? Do you have your memory running in sync with the FSB?

The only thing that has ever caused my benchmarking scores to go down is when I would overclock the core of my Geforce 4 too far. For some reason, it would not crash, but would run slower. So are you overcloking you video card? If not, I think we will need some more infro on your setup to find a solution
