2.26 vs 2.4b - the 2.26 OC's better right?

Apparently the 2.4b really doesn't overclock that well, while the 2.26s can often get up to 2.8-3.0 and sometimes even more than that (ref: overclockers.com).

If i want to overclock as high as I want, is the 2.26 the right way to go?

and I don't understand that they cost the same thing...actually the 2.4 costs a bit less.

Actually, the 2.4Bs overclock pretty well. I would imagine they would hit around the same clockspeeds as the 2.26.

It would be slightly slower than the 2.26 at the same overclocked speed though, because it will have a lower FSB.

But since it is cheaper, I say just go the 2.4B.

Most of the people who post OC results there are bending the truth a bit so to speak or have extreme cooling with voltage that will kill their processor fairly quick (prolonged 1.75V+ will). In general, expect about 2.6 - 2.8 stable out of a 2.26 with a good setup, 2.9+ if you have excellent cooling and a great chip. 2.9-3GHz is about the max you're really going to see from a B0 stepping in general, overclocked. Some people have gotten 2.53's to 3GHz, but most are ~2.9 since they are B0. If you can wait, the 1.8A SL6LA is going to be the chip to have in the future, much like the 1.6A, at a very affordable price. You'll see these 1.8A's flying up to ~3GHz most likely.

Here's a good read about the C1 stepping

I say go for the 2.26ghz,I have mine running at 2720mhz on default voltage.

Maybe I got lucky but those 2.26's are very nice.

My OEM 2.26B can run at 2.62ghz default voltage, error-free. I thought that I could hit 2.7ghz, but more serious testing proved me wrong:

1) running prime95 + 3dmark2000 as someone suggested produced memory corruption afterwards (starting aim or ie would be very slow)
2) running MemTest86 revealed memory errors that were fixed by increasing CPU voltage

I probably have a below-average 2.26B (max post speed is 2957mhz @1.66vcore), however it overclocks well for default voltages. I wonder how many people on Overclockers.com actually ran the torture tests I have ;)

Leo V...to answer you stress test question on o/c.com...probably less than 50%...since most of them just want to report the highest o/c they had gotten without testing...maybe ran a few test like sandra and wcpuid...that's all...i am pretty certain most people who reports to the o/c's database are not running at that speed...

I think i've decided to go with the 2.4

sure the 2.26 is probably a better OCer in most cases...but I can be sure the 2.4 will hit 2.6-2.7 at least, which isn't the case with the 2.26..

hmm, perhaps I'll wait for that C0 1.8A part...

18x166.7=3000MHz

I like round numbers :) I like them alot if I can hit them with a $140 CPU.

I too like the 2.4 between the two for O/C'ing..............I have reached 158FSB with mine stable and so far am happy there but will probably push it higher as soon as my next chip arrives!;)
