Ok, so I did some wheeling and dealing with DELL and I managed to get the 2007WFP price down to rougly the cost of the 2005FPW on sale and picked up two of them. Those of you that read the For Sale section know I recently purchased a 2405FPW monitor, and sold it, because I was unhappy having just one monitor. I'll post pictures with each of my setups in windows and gaming so you can all have a look, I know it is a popular debate between one "bigger" LCD and two "big" LCD monitors because of Dell's pricing scheme two 20" can be had for the price of one 24" if you find the right deals! (Don't ask me, visit your favorite deal site.)

Pictures to be posted soon, I'll take them with my Rebel XT. Any special requests? I've already packaged the 2405FPW but I did take pictures of the screen in Windows and in oblivion.

The problem here is that its not the 2407 you're comparing it to.

Can't wait for the pics though. Been considering this as well. I'm mixed about which I'd like better. I'm leaning more toward dual 20" right now though. I've had that setup before, as well as a 2405, and can't say for sure which I actually liked more.
 
man, we need to see side by side comparison!

also, when you get the dual..run both with the screen rotated at 90 degrees and let us see how that looks.

also, what's the pixel size for these new monitors? are they smaller than the 2005?

Should be the same since they have the same resolution and same screen size.
 
Well, if you guys want to run it by sunase I'll wait a day or two to ship and do a side by side comparison, but I'm guessing he'll want his 2405FPW as soon as possible. 🙂

2407WFP is not available, I'm happy I got the 2405FPW first because it saved me the aggrivation of waiting for 2407WFP and being unhappy with not having two monitors.
 
A month or two ago I would say that I am unhappy with dual monitors and that I would rather have one big one (within reason)... Since then I have gotten so used to the two monitors i dont think i could ever go back
 
I liked the dual monitor for a week or so. Got sick of moving my neck like I was watching a tennis match. Switched back to a single big monitor. not to mention not having to deal with the annoying black bezel in the center.

You know, you don't have to use both as one large monitor. It actually works pretty well when they're used separately. Having IM windows, Outlook, etc. open on one monitor while playing something on the other works pretty well.

Exactly what I do. I just got my second 2005FPW to replace an aging 19" CRT that I was using as a second display. I have WoW on the main screen and browser, IM, vent, etc on the second screen. I couldn't imagine going back to a single display.

I used to do just that. But u still have to keep spannig teh width to check on other stuff. Another annoyanc is that movies never span across both screens. so when u watch movies or video u have to shut down the other monitor or it just is plain distracting. am sure its great for multi taskers and prod support types jobs. just not practical for day to day use.
 
The trick is the setting... you need to set each monitor to be independent of the other. That way you can drag to each monitor, but things like maximize and prompts (pop ups, alerts, etc) stick with the monitor the application is on.

For movies or games, I only use one monitor. I just like having two "independent" work areas.

Thats the Exact same setting I had. The Span setting is practially unusable.
 
It'll be intresting to see if your panels are plauged with the problems affecting most 2007's. If you don't know what I'm talking about check out the video forum.

I'm doing it for day to day use. It's very practical.
 
Yup works for some doesnt for others. I can take the liberty of saying wont for most.

Nother quick point abt gaming.

U cant ALT/TAB between most games and ur IM wiondows etc without killing ur game. So the second window is almost useless.

Wall Papers which Appear twice is another problem especially when u have a hot chick on it. 2 chicks > 1 but not if its teh same one 🙂

IMO the biggest problem s taht u never have a screen which u can look straight into. Look straight and u have a black bezel. U have to tilt ur neck to look at either one which I am sure is gonna cause Neck Strain down the line. Keep teh main screen in front of u and then looking at teh side one is way too much trouble.

just telling my experience.
 
Question... when you have a game and IMs open at the same time on dual monitors.... how do u set it up? how do u choose which opens in which window? is it the nvidia thing? I know you can have multiple desktops with nvidia... but then you still have to switch something to use the keyboard in the other. at first i thought that would be cool... now im thinking it would be a little pointless and take up too much space. look at my pc in my sig.. see what i mean

Ouch, does your arm hurt when you use your mouse like that? I'll post some pictures of my desk, I purposely bought one that would be good for multiple monitor setups. Its hard to explain, but the desk has many levels, for instance it has two main levels- one for monitors and one for a working area. I can have both monitors a book or two and dinner on my desk with plenty of room to spare, the keyboard and mouse slide out under the work area.

I'm pretty sure the NVIDIA software is "smart" as in it learns where and how you position your windows and opens them where you close them.

Actually, the mouse position is perfect. I uess you would have to see my chair. It has arms and its really relaxed. The feel is perfect for games...I was thinking maybe get a really small monitor like a 14 or a 12 if i can find one for the right side... move the phone, speaker etc. so i can see things like IMs and such on the small monitor while i play games or watch a movie on the big one. Also... if you have ever used teamspeak, it would be nice to see whos saying what on the second screen if you have alot of people in a room.
 
I was using my old 1901fp alongside my new 2005fpw and honestly I didn't like it. It wasn't just that the resolutions were different. The only advantage it had over jsut one monitor was being able to see your desktop on the one while being in a fullscreen game on the other. That's all well and good but, you're unable to click the desktop because the mouse is trapped in your fullscreen game so you end up alt-tabbing anyway. I ended up selling it to m buddy for 100 bucks and his old 20inch crt. Figured he'd get ebtter use out of it then I do. Watching movies spread across the two would be obnoxious with a split in the middle too.
 
Well, I got the replacement and it works perfectly. The only problem is my desk is slightly curved from the weight of the two CRT monitors and is making it really difficult to get the LCD screens to line up nice. I just spent fifty bucks that the hardware store buying wood and sealant and what not, in order to replace the top of my desk. Trying to be done by tomorrow, I'll post pictures soon.
