2-2-2-11 slower than 2-3-3-11?

I just pulled 2 sticks of 512 OCZ Gold running 2-3-3-11 out of my NF7 and stuck in this HyperX PC3000 that could possibly be BH-5. It's currently running 200 fsb @ 2-2-2-11 on 2.7v and it seems relatively stable...although I haven't gotten around to running memtest. It ran the prime95 blend test just fine for a little over 2 hours, so should I even bother with memtest?

Well anyways...everything feels less snappy after swapping the sticks. I know I'm only using 512mb compared to 1gb, but it shouldn't make that much of a difference. Programs seem to be loading slower, and it just doesn't feel as quick. I ran Sandra bandwidth test and it showed just about what I expected for PC3200. What could be some reasons for it not feeling as fast? Are my timings too tight...and is that even possible?

BTW I got these sticks from Best Buy for $59 a piece, and if it really does turn out to be BH-5 I'd be an extremely happy man. I'm too afraid to rip off the heat spreaders though. :(

go over to xtremesystems and there's a thread about the khx3000 and possible stickers that show if it's bh-5 or not...

does sandra tell you what speed your memory is running at? If not, what does?

Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean. It's doing 200 fsb @ 2-2-2-11 at 2.6 volts now.

BTW....thanks Shim :)

windows is funny...if you don't have it tweaked, it will actually start swapping BEFORE all available memory is full. Which means that you actually WILL notice a difference between 512MB and a gig, even if you have a lot of "available" memory.

Like, here's my system with 768MB RAM, and just a few Firefox windows open.

memory
total 785904
avail 559328

kernel memory
total 47992
paged 38732
nonpaged 9260

Hey - I just received my 2x256 KHX3000 sticks. Mine are definitely NOT BH-5 RAM. I tried to BOOT at 2-2-2-5 at 200FSB with both 2.5 and 2.6 VDIMM and NO GO !!

I am currently burning them in using MemTest86+ at 223FSB with 2.8 VDIMM on an IC7-G MB with timings of 2-3-2-6.

Maybe the BH-5 Gurus can elaborate on either CH-5 or BH-6 possibly?

Who cares what it is if it does 223 @ 2-3-2-6. :)

I believe a lot of these are either bh-5 or bh-6....so still pretty decent chips. Give em some more voltage and see what they'll do.

you should be able to do 230 2-2-2-6 if that is true BH-5 or BH-6
3.2v would be the highest i would go and if you do go over 3v i recommend adding an extra fan over the memory :)

good luck
