2.1 Speakers: Logitech Z-3, Z-340, or Altec Lansing 2100?

I'm trying to pick out some 2.1 speakers for my college dorm, to be used with my laptop. Any recommendations for/against the following:

Altec Lansing 2100 - $42.93
Logitech Z-3 - $29.99 AR
Logitech Z-340 - $35.99

I'd get the Z-3's over the Z-340's (might as well scratch the Z-340's off the list)

Between the Z-3's and the 2100, I remember listening to the 2100's @ a store display but don't remember what they sound like to make a comparison between the 2.

yeah the other logitechs look abit cak to me....the z-3's have the style and the power

I got the z-3s for my fiancee, they're awesome. They look cool, too.

Amazon is having a sale on the z-2200s - 200 watts and THX certified (z-3s are like 40 watts). $57.29 after rebate. link

I like the 2100's.

They're aesthetically better looking and a very good deep bass from the double long-throw drivers.

Unless you don't have the space or don't care much about playing games or watchin' movies on the PC.

In any case, for $40 you could get a 5.1 system or a better quality 2.1 system.

OK all, I think I'm gonna go with the Z-3's. Buy.com is out of stock, anywhere else I can get them?

Before you pull the trigger on those Z3's, I _really_ recommend going somewhere to hear them.
I found them to be quite boomy -- and generally unpleasant for music. But that's just me....
It may also have been due to the store environment, so it may be that putting them in a "normal" room and on a "normal" table would help.

I know compusa and circuit-city (and maybe bestbuy) usually have a decent selection that you can demo.

Out of those, the Z-3. 2100 looks better, but has no headphone jack. I hate that.

Amazon should still have teh z-3.

of the listed choices the 2100 easily esp. for music. the Logitech's are way to boomy and distorted at higher volumes compared to the 2100, my little brother has the Z-340's, for games and action movies they're great but for anything else it's just awful.

The Logitechs are boomy due to their high crossover frequency. If your sound card can adapt and compensate for the "boomyness" then it's no problem. As for distortion, can't speak for the Z-340 or Z-3's but the Z-2200's don't distort AFAIK.

I like Altec Lansings. They sound great. Recently purchased Atlec lancing 251 5.1 speakers for $40. They are excellent.

amazing how everyone recommended the Z-3 :Q
I bet anyone that if they listened to both the Z3 and the 2100 in a blind test, 9/10 will say the altec lansing sounds better than the Logitech tincans.
The only 1/10 will be the bass whore that likes bass so boomy that you can't hear anything else :disgust:
