Wow! This looks awesome - I just might have to try the DIY route. I always like to take things apart and, time permitting, put them back together. This looks like one hell of a value when finished.

Just wanted to mention that they say themselves that "I'd still have to say that they are still not quite to the performance level of our A/V-1 kit or the giant killer king X-LS speaker from AV123." 😛 😉

I've seen used pairs for for $150 to $175 for X-LS
Of course, they've reason to hawk those products. 😉

My brother has a two BP7001SC's for sale. I could probably get them for you for a couple of thousand.

Just wanted to say it since BB has raised the price on the Insignias a bit (although they're back down from the $75 they were earlier this week)

Any suggestions on possible receivers? I know this will land into the category of possible upgradability...is Cnet a reliable source of receiver ratings and opinions? that's all i've known

Pretty much anything will work 😉

Are you going to stick with 2.1 or do you think you'd eventually do a surround set possibly?

You could get a basic surround receiver new for under $200 for example.

I think I want to to be prepared on this one, and get a surround receiver. With the price of the insignias (or the paradigm titans or X-LS on ebay) I'd be able to get a nice surround setup eventually.

That Onkyo 504 for $169 would be tough to beat.

Otherwise somewhere like Circuit city should have some options for under $200 from Pioneer or Onkyo for you.

I had a decent logitech system then a klipsch 2.1.. The left speaker on the klipsch crapped out on me so I just hooked up my received and these two floor speakers I got pretty cheaply (JL Audio? Who the hell are they.. but the pair was less than $150) and they sound MUCH better, without a sub... Receiver plus speakers and sub is what i'd do.

You don't even need to finish them. I have three pairs, all unmodded, and I paid $40/pr on sale for them back in December. They sound VERY good, and I think they offer unmatched value for the dollar. The best part is they are readily available in most major cities; Best Buy's are everywhere.

BTW, they sound and look better with the speaker grills off. The carbon-fiber cone is dead-sexy surrounded by the gloss black finish.

I understand why Best Buy raised their price; at $50/pr, they were flying off the shelves.
