2.1 speaker set for music: Altec Lansing ATP3 or Logitech Z-340?

The total wattage and volume don't matter much. I'm looking at something that sounds really good and clear. I'm using nForce soundstorm (analog out though)

I'm currently looking at the Altec Lansing ATP3's which I can get from J&R for $40 + shipping ($54 total; I have some store credit stuff with them). The Logitech Z340's at Newegg are getting rave reviews though. $45 - $10 rebate.

Which do you think sound better for music? Currently, I have BA-735 speakers, but they only take 3.5mm digital, which my nForce doesn't provide.

check out the Bostan Acoustics BA 735

they put out great sound in a small package

altec is good too, I havent heard the logitec.

dont buy speaks without hearing them. many suck

I got a pair of harmonKardons, they seemed like a prof company, and I assumed they'd have good sound based on their stats, but they were crap.

Boston Acoustics are great

StraightPipe, I actually forgot to mention that I have/had BA-735's. I'm letting my bro use them now because I don't have 3.5mm digital. I let him borrow my Santa Cruz and my BA-735.

BTW Straightpipe, comparing the ATP3's with the BA735's, which would you say are better? I've been using my BA735's for a while, admittedly with only a SB128D (that died).

The BA735's were quite good, I felt, but they didn't work with the 3.5mm analog on my 8rda+, and when I connected them to the spdif via rca, that didn't work either.

ATP3 hands down..
logitech z-340's has muddy highs, and boomy bass

the 3.5mm digital will work with nforce2 if you used an RCA to 3.5" adapter, and you make an RCA Coaxial digital for your epox. there are pins on the mobo for s/pdif out and ground.
I made one my abit nf7-s... works great

Yea, I shoulda thought of using an RCA to 3.5mm adapter for $3.99 from Radio Shack, but hey, my bro gets good sound on the TBSC and BA-735's now.

I'd really want to get the ATP3 except for the fact that there's no headphone jack (in case my future dorm buddy wants me to use the headphones sometimes). The ATP3's woofer is also like absolutely huge!. A front transfer panel would be extra dough. Any other choices in the price range? (around ~$50ish. I can pay more if I buy from Omax or J&R though because I have some of this virtual currency.).

The ATP3's are better than my current Boston BA735's, right? The boston set's woofer is small (but still all right). I think the Boston's range is probably a bit limited at 55Hz on the lower side.

I looked at the Monsoon's page, and they had few details. I looked at the Planar Media 7 and some MM502's they got at Omax for $70. I can't find specs except that the 50hz to 20khz looks like it gives weak bass.

I've used ATP3's a lot and they sound great, especially considering they are pretty small and have a great price tag to go along with it...I have yet to be impressed with Logitech speakers sets except maybe for the Z-680's, but even those there are still cases of the amplifier within the sub over-heating...

Wow, Z-680's are so costly. Of course, the Klipsches are out of the ~$50 price range too ;) I guess I'm really leaning to the ATP3's now considering I can have a set for $54. I appreciate everyone's input.
