2.0Ghz SL68R Won't do 533fsb

I just got my new 2.0Ghz. I was hoping it would get to 533fsb/2.6Ghz.. I guess not though.. It only gets to 2.4ghz stable..

Pack date was Aug 21/2002.

My question is.. Is the SL68R "Newer" that say the SL5YR?? (The SL5XXX's seem to be better) So, if I opened up another box with a pack date of Aug 21/2002 or later, would there be another SL68R??

Thanks!
Riley

2.66GHz is a pretty high OC to "bet on". SL68R is the new B0 die-shrunk stepping, which should OC higher than than the older steppings. But really, the 2.0A isn't a very good OC'er. A 1.8A will out perform it at the same clockspeed because of the higher FSB. If you can, sell it or return it so you can either buy a 1.8A or a 2.26B, either of which should do better than a 2.0A (plus a 2.26B will be even faster at the same clockspeed than a 1.8A because it has a lower multiplier).

Well, I think I'll take your advice. I can return my 2.0.

I think the 2.26b should do nicely... The only think I'm worried about is that my mobo (P4S8X) doesn't have the option to lock PCI/AGP... :X

Thanks!

Ouch, no AGP/PCI lock is a bad thing. You might consider trading the motherboard in for one with an i845G chipset as well.

Yeah, It sucks.. But it makes up for it with other things..

2 Onboard FireWire
Onbaord LAN
6 Onboard USB 2.0
2 x Serial ATA (RAID 0/1)
8x AGP (ok maybe not a big deal, but still cool..)

I just put in the RMA for my CPU. I went with the 2.26. If this one doen't overclock well either I'm gonna just leave it be... After all, nobody really NEEDS a 2+Ghz CPU anyways right?? 😉

Thanks!

P4B533-E offers the same features sans SATA and has PCI/AGP lock.

[EDIT: It also lacks AGP8X,but that's not significant]
