$2,000 Gaming PC w/ 23" monitor

Hi, this is my first post here. I have $2,000 to spend on a brand new computer, and this will be my first home built computer. I plan to be buying this computer within the next two weeks, based upon further research. I want to be gaming on a 23" monitor, but I'm not really sure what to get. Here is what I've put together so far.
I would like to buy all the components from Newegg to ease the hassle of ordering from multiple sources. I like the Antec 1200 because it's all black, which is something I want, besides looking massive and having a lot of cooling features. Please help me tinker with different parts so I can get the best performance and pricing.

I plan on overclocking this computer after it's first built and running. I haven't had a new computer in 7 years so this will be a huge upgrade for me!

Hi--
Your links don't seem to work. New Egg seems to sell the 920i for $280. You are at least $300 over your budget. That's a large capacity HD to use for OS only.

links are broken.

you could certainly get a better deal on the monitor, though samsung are usually decent units. all 23" 1080p monitors are probably going to be TN panels and will probably look similar, i'd put most the difference in the quality of the backlighting.

PSU is overkill. the 750w would be way more than you'll ever need and will save you some cash.

and i'm not sure why the case is worth so much. but to each his own.

in general, it's a very solid high end build, but you could certainly shave a little money off if desired.

The reason I went for the x2 is because I'm going to be gaming at high-resolution at 1920 x 1080. Or maybe two 4890s would be good?

I agree with brblx, 1000w is WAY overkill for this comp, it would be enough for two 4870x2's. Step down to a cheaper unit, the Corsair 520w 550w or 620w would fit well and still have plenty of power

Also I don't really see the need in the 1200 case unless you just want extra space. The cheaper 300 or 900 versions are plenty big inside and still offer great airflow

Do you really need to spend $330 on a motherboard? There are several good quality, feature rich boards in the 200-260 range that should fit your needs

errr..

i would just avoid ATI in general. :\

But 2 x 4890's would be a much better solution then a single X2. Trust me..

I actually +1 this.

the giggy X58-Extreme is one of the best boards on the market.
But there is a new version coming out that has 24 phase power.

In all, thats a great and solid board designed with overclocking in mind. The Foxconn bloodrage would of been my first pick tho.

Its a cheaper board but offers a TON of overclocking features.

Welcome to AT 🙂

Overall your components look good. I agree with previous posters in that I'd prefer a single high powered vid card as opposed to two. I also agree the PSU is a bit overkill but that's up to you.

The only thing I'd like to add is overall cost. Depending how patient you can be, you might be able to save quite a bit of money by waiting for sales on your specific parts or equals. For example, Dell sells the Samsung 2333sw for around $160-170 about once a month. It's a pretty sweet 23" 1080p LCD.

Like the others said, you don't need a 1kw PSU. They're only necessary for triple or quad GPU setups or if you have a lot of hard drives. As CR said, it pays to shop around. Samsung are vary good displays but there are plenty that are just as good for less. I've always been happy with my LG monitor. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Acer either.

Newegg isn't always the cheapest. I saved about 10% going through NCIX even though their initial prices were higher; they didn't charge me provincial sales tax and shipping is free on orders over $300.

It's also worth noting that you forgot to add an optical drive to your setup. You can get a OEM Blu-ray one for under $100 now complete with DVD burning.

(ive got an optical drive.)

What you guys think? I'm just about to order.

(links broke again oh well.)

From what I've been seeing on the 920 reviews, some people are still getting the older stepping. Probably from "slower moving" warehouses.

The Enermax Revolutions is nothing but spot on marketing with its name. Love both of my 950's

For a comp this high end, it seems a bit odd that you're not going with a raptor HDD or SSD for primary and a large 640GB or 1TB WD black for secondary.
