1x PCI-e card in a 16x PCI-e slot?

I'd like to use Avermedia M780 (a 1x PCI-e tuner card) in a 16x PCI-e slot.

Is this compatible? My motherboard is Asus A8R-32 MVP Deluxe.

I've had the same card in both 1x and 16x slots.

Generally, yes it does work. PCIE electrics and the slots are specifically designed for doing that.

Just watch whether using the PCIE-16 slot has any side effects, like disabling integrated graphics, reducing the lane width on another slot, or something like that.
