1U rack mount enclosure height question

I don't have a lot of hands-on experience with 1U enclosures, so I am a bit unsure of the dimensions involved with such things. So, a few questions:

1). Is the 19-inch rack the most common standard in rack mount servers? Also, is the enclosure itself going to be 19" wide, or 18"?
2). What is the typical enclosure length? I've read 16", but I also read 2" height, and that appears to be untrue (see 3).
3). Is the height 1.75" or 2"? I'm thinking 1.75".
4). If I were to lay a common 1U rack mount enclosure down on a perfectly flat surface and then measure the height from the surface up to the top of a properly-installed Opteron 6386 SE (without heatsink/TIM) in one of the sockets of a Supermicro H8QGi-F motherboard inside said enclosure, how high would it be?

Thanks in advance.

1U is 1.75" and the enclosure will be that. If it is advertised as 1U (or 2U, etc) it will be that size. Now, as far as the width, I am not sure if it is advertised as 19" (or 23") if it takes into account the 0.625"n mounting rails. So, it is possible a 1U enclosure could be 1.75" x 19" or 1.75" x 17.75"

Thanks for the information. Any idea where I could go to get measurements on typical motherboard standoff height, server motherboard PCB thickness (such as the Supermicro H8QGi-F listed above), and socket + CPU thickness for a G34 CPU? Maybe I should poke around in the mobo forum about all that . . .
