1U chassis and motherbord I/O panel height

I've built many rackmount servers, but all of motherboards were designed for servers. The boards used in the 1U servers that I built were intended to work in 1U chassis.

But will a motherboard designed for desktops, with a full-height I/O panel, fit in a 1U chassis?

1U is about 1 and 3/4 inches I believe. I'd measure, but I think it will fit.

The question would be whether or not he I/O panel cutout in a generic 1U chassis is the same size as that of a desktop PC.

Do you have the chassis in mind or are you still looking? If the height is correct, I am sure there are chassis that have the standard I/O cutout.

From what I've seen on a quick Newegg search, it seems some 1U servers have what looks like a standard cutout for the I/O back panel and some have a predetermined back panel. So, if you get one with a cutout, a regular motherboard should work. Otherwise, it would have to line up with what the chassis itself has.

They do make 1U ATX cases. The board design and rear panel size is standard so it should work. You of course need to buy slot adapters for the slots if you want to use them.

will u be able to slap a ASUS ROK series board into a DELL C1100 case? HELLZ NO...

will you be able to slap a ASUS ROK series board into a Chembro ATX 1U case?
possibly... however i hope you have those good 40mm delta fans pushing a lot of air over the system.

it should fit no problem, at work we run tons of systems in 1U enclosures that were never really intended to be run as such
