1TB Velociraptor + 60GB Agility2 + SRT = FAST!

I installed my new Velociraptor 1TB Drive (got it for 279.99 no shipping from Directron) + An OCZ Agility2 60GB that I had lying around doing nothing really.

Configured in Bios the SATA to RAID mode. Installed Windows 7 etc..

Restored my docs etc..

Installed the intel RST application, used max space on Agility2 for caching and boom let the speedup begin.

Lightspeed with a 20K+ Library of raw file flies, The catalog pops right into place and browsing/previews are fast and realtime.

Apps that I use pretty much pop into place, bootup is greatly reduced.

This was coming from a 2TB Caviar black.

I notice less disk access and the whole thing just feels like operating out of SSD but no pain of management or risk of SSD dataloss (using enhanced mode)

MB is a Gene-Z, 2600K, 560W Seasonic 80gold, 8GB of ram (G.skill 7-7-7-21 ram), videocard ati 6770 1TB

The Velociraptor/SRT combo is amazingly fast. This will be my new standard for new workstation builds.

You need to explain what you are doing there or point me to some reference sites. Everything appears Greek to me, and frankly I have never used an SSD before but I can get a bunch of velociraptors from work.

Hugo I thought about doing what your did too, but rather with a faster 500/500 SSD and either the 1TB Velociraptor or the Seagate 3TB.

You would do well either way. Velociraptor is of course the fastest but with the SSD SRT 3TB would be fine as well.

I think SRT is a great solution, the majority of stuff on an SSD if used conventionally would not get used. So why pay for expensive MB's for dormant files when you can utilize an SSD silently in the background and have it cache your hot files.

It has a significant boost in performance compared to non SRT. Without the SSD hassles of drive/storage management or worries of data loss on a new tech.

Hugo, how’s the noise level of the Raptor compared to the Caviar Black? I’m particularly interested in idle noise.

Its no louder than a caviar black. I think it is because of the small platter size and the dampening effects of the ice pack. Its pretty quiet actually.

It also runs pretty cool as well.

Swapped the Agility with a Vertex 4 128GB (Flashed to 1.4)

Got on the Anvil benchmark

Read 1547.76
Write 193.18

Total 1740.94

Would put a screenshot but not sure what is the simplest way to do this.
