1TB Hard drives?

Prices on 4-500GB HDD's are coming down significantly...right now I can buy a 500GB HDD at newegg for $140.

So this is leading me to think that they're getting ready to ramp up storage capacity to what they've been telling us they'll be able to get with perpendicular recording tech-- 1TB.

Question is, when? Soon? Anybody know the HDD release timetables? I've been itching to upgrade my 3x160's but have committed to waiting until I can get a 1TB drive.

Thanks.

What a milestone for personal computers. Ten years ago I marvelled at the 1GB hard drive in the new computer my mom brought home. Not to mention the amazing 16MB of RAM 😀.

Pretty funny, now many hard drives have 16MB of RAM on board. Oh how times change.

Wasn't it closer to 15 years ago when 1GB drives came onto the market?

Eh, probably. Now that I think about it, I was a freshman in high school, so that was 12-13 years ago.

For drives of that capacity, i would definitely go RAID1 or RAID5. There's no way in hell i'm going to lose 1TB of data... even if it's just porn, that's a damn lot of porn to lose.
