1TB External Drive - Any reason to pick one over another?

Both are $120 locally right now and a friend is looking to pick up one for his office (needs to back up two computers to it).

Any reason to go for one over another? Is there any big differences in the software included?

One PC is Vista 64-bit, the other XP Pro.

Check the warranties - my WD external died days after the 1-year warranty expired.

My wife has WD stock in her IRA account.
WD is the stonger company

for an external drive where speed isn't as critical, i'd go for the one with the better warranty and track record.

Seagate has a 5 year warranty, while WD only has a 1 year. However, one of the reviews on Newegg noted the Seagate doesn't work in 64-bit windows (not sure why it wouldn't). Maybe just the included software didn't?

Yes, sounds like the newegg reviewer isn't very smart

I have a Seagate external drive on Vista64. No issues.

My new quad system has two SATA HDDs - both 500 GB, one WDC and one Seagate. Both contain the identicakl OS and programs. I rotate them periodically. Not a whit of difference between them. I can say the same thing about externals - some Seagate, some WDC. Yes, there is a warranty difference, but . . . in over 25 years of cpumputing, I have only had two HDD failure - one was a Quantum and one was a WDC. Since all I buy are OEM drives - there is never any included software to consider.

can't see how the seagate wouldn't work with vista 64, I just had a 500gig mybook die (about 2 years of use) sot he seagate warranty might be tempting, but after 2-3 years would you even care about a 1tb drive or just replace it with a 2-3 tb one if its breaks?
