Hey, I have been an AMD enthusiast for some time now - last intel box here is a P3 1.26 that runs downstairs as an internet kiosk & kiddie box...

So I just put together this awesome Prescott, with retail HSF it's running 257 / 1028 fsb for a cpu speed of 3.6ghz ;) Not bad for a 2.8 chip.

I'm also a seti enthusiast, which is why I jumped over to the P4 HT cpu - running two processes at once gets me GT 20 WU's per day from one box. The best I can do with my AMD boxes is about 11 WU / day.

This is GREAT!!

What kind of AMD setup are you comparing this to? And what kind of cooling are you using? What are your temps like? Is it Prime95 stable?

i heard the rumours i read the myth
but damn wiz dun gone and did the deed !!
hahaha

my 2.8e just seems to run too hot and hold me back even with some of the best aircooling they make

you musta got a good stepping or something
cause i heard the D0 stepping was hitting 4ghz on air from someone on newegg's postings

good deal

btw what voltage are you using ??

WHOA....if these results are reproducable........i can only get 3.5 out of my M0 P4C 2.8 (with a quality cooler)......if more ppl get results like this, Prescotts might actually start changing their reputation

P95 tested??

haha
if i setup a subzero watercooling system i'm sure i can get over 4ghz with my prescott
that sounds like a good summer project...

hehe

Just been running seti two processes for about 24 hours. No errors, no problems. Installed Office & all the Windows updates & all the Office updates no problems.

I Got some plain old Kingmax pc-3500 ram from Newegg.
It's set at 2.0 - 4 - 4 - 7 right now.

Here's my order info at the bottom of this post.

Hey, I just plugged the stuff in & it worked. Got RAID0 running on the intel controller too.

I scraped off the crap from the HS & put on some ASIII but that's it for modifications except I did replace the crappy PSU with a good one.

I'm as surprised as anyone else. It seems like it wouldn't have any trouble going higher ;)

I did up the cpu voltage to 1.5 & the ram to 2.7 (the spec says it is good to 2.7).
Probe says the cpu voltage is at 1.45V
The box says it's a BX80546PG2800ESL79K

So far, it's all good. ;)

i ran 3.6ghz on mine but i needed like 1.55v to do it
hopefully with better cooling i can get away with 4ghz without having to go over 1.6v :)

Great overclock !!

do you benchmark faster than a stock 3.4ghz P4c with the same specs

no idea, I don't have one here ;)

I would imagine, but this has only been running about 36 hours now...

To get that sort of overclock you will still need to raise the voltage up, even with the best air cooling in the world (SP94). All the cooling will do is help keep the processor running in same temps b/c the extra voltage necessary makes the processor run alot hotter....as you prolly know.

yeah but my problem became the heat down here in southern california
the cpu temps were almost 80c and i got a few lockups so i had to back it down

watch those summer heat waves :)

i'm using the IC7-MAX3 with a prescott 2.8E with stock heatsink and i'm up at 3.5Ghz, with watercooling i'm hoping to get to 4ghz. Has anyone else used the abit EQ, it reads my cpu current temp at 44oC. but my bios says 54oC.

This is normal (in my case anyway) - When i enter the BIOS and stay a 10-20sec. the CPU gets hotter then when in WinXP.

I know this because my CPU fan has a variable temperature dependent RPM and I can hear it runnung louder when I enter BIOS - the same thing happens when I run a heavy program or game.

This is pretty normal temperature for Prescott - Datasheet says it must be < 69 deg. celsius i think.

I've overclocked my to 3.4Ghz and the temp was still 62 deg. under 3DMark03, so go on and overclock, but get a good cooling system - mine is THERMALTAKE Spark 7+ Xaser edition and I've removed the X aluminium thingy (the Xaser edition :)) on top of it - the fan runs more quet this way, and you get between 1 and 5 deg. cooler CPU also.

My config:
MB Gigabyte 8KNXP I875P
CPU Intel Prescott 2.8G
2x256MB KINGSTON HyperX
80GB HDD Maxtor 7200/8MB SATA
NEC ND2500A DVD+-R/RW
Gigabyte 9800PRO 128MB
400W PSU

What are you saying? I mean I see that you are new to AT, so welcome, but your post doesn't lead anywhere for future posts....

So whats wrong with that ? I've been running my 2.6@ 3.2 at 1.60V for 1 year now. 1.65 is safe voltage for P4 Northwood so I would imagine 1.55 is safe for Prescott, no?
