1st time OCing - how does this look so far?

After reading as many forums and threads as I could handle, I finally built my system and started OCing it. I am slightly limited by stock HFS and the antec sonata case, but quiet was a priority.

ASUS m4a78t-e
x3 720 BE
OCZ reaper 4gb ddr3 1600
MSI 4850 OC

So far I have been able to get 3.3MHz at 16.5x and NB at 2400 with stock voltages. If I try to go from 16.5x to 17x the cpu temp jumps 7-10 degrees up into the 60's, so this must be my stock HFS limit? Anything I am missing here?

memory was tricky; the OCZ will not run anything close to the advertised 7-7-7 at 1600; I had to choose between 11-11-11 at 1600 or run it at 1333 with 6-6-5-16 1T settings. It seemed from several sites (including OCZforums) that it was more important to OC the NB and have lower latencies than try to get up to 1600. Any advice on this issue?

cpu temp is around 27C idle and 52C load under Prime95. I only have the one 120mm fan running on low for noise reasons, although I might try upping it to medium or high and see what difference it makes in overall temp.

Any other suggestions or advice? besides the memory issues this has been fun and relatively successful thus far.

Yes, I did bump up the volt to 1.9 when trying to hit 1600 and it did not help. It is currently running at 1.9 with 1333 6-6-5-16, and I might try to lower it until it becomes unstable.

Another question: when I upped volt to 1.9 and ran prime95 the cpu max load went from being around 47C with 1.5 DRAM to around 53C with 1.9DRAM volt. Is this a normal increase?

Pretty good for a first attempt, though I suspect you can push it higher. If you've got the Sonata III, the stock Tricool fan on low setting isn't doing you any overclocking favors. You'll hit a heat wall with it on low long before you hit your hardware limitations. It's a great fan for airflow, so if you don't mind the noise put it on medium (or high.) Or replace it with a quieter fan such as this one:

going to try the fan at high and see how the noise is.

On another front, I was able to get my MSI 4850 to OC up to 700psu and 1100DRAM with temps in the high 50's and no errors reporting in OCCT. What is my temp limit on this card? I've seen some ppl go into the 60-70s range, but don't know what is a safe limit to aim for.

ran prime95 with fan on high and cpu temp was only 2C lower at around 51C; still don't think I could bump up the multiplier from 16.5 to 17 without getting close to 60.

I did get a hypertransport sync flood error while running OCCT GPU test to check out the MSI at 700/1180. Is this related to my video card OC or is that an error related to cpu/memory/etc?

You can probably push it a tad harder than THAT... :D
