I'm really new at this stuff and I'm currently educating myself with the specifics of building a PC. I'm building my first PC and I've been looking at the abit BE6-II Version 2 as a motherboard. I think can get it shipped to my door for about $135 and that's about what I'm willing to spend on the motherboard. I'm planning on getting a Pentium III 850 100Mhz BUS to go with it. I was wondering if this motherboard is my best bet or is there something better that I can get for the about the same amount? Thanks!

From a former intel "fan"

The rules have changed.

What part of faster and cheaper do people not get??

Buy the K7T Pro2a that everyone's raving about,
then put a 1ghz T-Bird on it
and a COOL Globalwin Cooler to top it off.

This machine would run circles around an Intel 850 on an Abit MOBO!
and for probably about the same $$ or less

I agree with Zulu. At this time why would you want to go with Intel with the AMD being such a better value? Im not Intel bashing Im just looking at all of the info available out there and AMD is the way to go right now.

Thanks for the input!! I'm looking at the AMD Thunderbird 1Ghz® and the K7T Pro2-A now. They both look great and I will save a lot of money going that avenue! Not to mention, as you guys stated, a faster PC!!. Thanks again your input has been very valuable. :)

I also agree with Zulu.I just switched from Intel to AMD a couple weeks ago.I got the MSI K7T Pro2a and its a great motherboard.Take the money you save from not buying that P3 850 and buy a 1Ghz or better T-bird.Just make sure you get a Athlon approved power supply.
