Hey all, looking to upgrade/rebuild my existing desktop (which my brother built and gave to me).

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.

Casual gaming (Batman Arkham City, the Hunter: COTW) and office work, occasional HD streaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread

Cheap as possible but in reality anywhere between $500 -$700 CAD

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.

Canada

4. IF you're buying parts OUTSIDE the US, please post a link to the vendor you'll be buying from.
We can't be expected to scour the internet on your behalf, chasing down deals in your specific country... Again, help us, help YOU.

amazon.ca but I'm open to other vendors

5. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc.

No preference

6. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.

PSU, storage, and case

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.

Default

8. What resolution, not monitor size, will you be using?

1920 x 1080

9. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Note that it is usually not cost or time effective to choose your build more than a month before you actually plan to be using it.

ASAP

10. Do you need to purchase any software to go with the system, such as Windows or Blu Ray playback software?

Windows

Current Specs:

Intel Core i7-2600
8 GB ram
AMD Radeon HD 5800

Thanks for any help!

Original post edited with some specs. Budget is 500-700 CAD.

I wanted to just upgrade GPU to 2 GB card but I've been informed that I'll need to upgrade other components as well to make it all work smoothly.

Thanks!

How about this for starters? Something you could work with anyway.

Actually you could get a 1050Ti, an another 8GB of memory, and a SSD without building a new system. Do you know what chipset your motherboard uses?

Yeah that's what I was hoping to do...not sure if chipset is compatible with 1050 upgrade but I think its an Intel 6 series/C200 series.

SSD is Intel SSDSA2CW120G3 120 GB.

Thanks for your help!

I'd get a GTX 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB / another stick of ram to make it 16GB, and call it a day until you are ready to replace the who shebang.
