Well my current system died on me yesterday, so I guess I need a new system quicker then I thought. This is what I have so far- comments and reccomendations would GREATLY be appreciated. I dont intent to OC, and am not a gammer. General internet use with simple photo and video editing, besides the normak MS office apps.

CPU - Intel E6600

MB - 1st choice - Asus P5B Deluxe
2nd choice - DFI Infinity 975X/G

System Memory - Corsair 2GB DDR2-667 PCS-5300 Value Select

Video - eVGA e-GeForce 7600 GT

Hard Drive - Western DIgital WD1200JB

Case - Lian Li PC-61 Black.

I am not sure on the PSU so any help there would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Rappy

Looks fine except you want the Lian Li PC-7B, not the 61. The 61 uses 80mm fans and the exhaust is rather restricted, the PC-7 on the other hand uses 2x120mm's and has free flowing fan openings.

For the PSU Seasonic is one of the best and is quickly becoming my default choice. The 380 watt S12 would be plenty for your configuration.

I would also defiantly go with the Asus board over DFI.

If you're not a gamer, drop the 7600GT and go w/ a 7300 flavor card and save yourself a hundred bucks.

I would drop that E6600 down a notch to a E6300 since you won't be running intense stuff like games.

Thanks for the ideas. My only concern is if I downgrade a certain component, because I might not need all of its features now, is it better to save the money now and upgrade latter when and If I need it, or get the best most reasonbly prices parts that I can get now and keep them for a few "generations" (improvments)?

You can only run MS Word so fast :) .

For your uses, unless they drastically change, choosing better bang for the buck components won't affect you in the long run. This PC will still do all the things you need it for in the next several years.

If you're not going to game out, there's no reason for a conroe or a GT. Kind of like buying a ferarri when you only plan on driving 25MPH.
For what you plan on doing, an AMD 3800+ and a midline video card would even more than enough and save you big $$.
Sorry about the suggestions, it sounds like you want to go intel but i'm an AMD user and don't pay attention to intel, so i don't know thier models. :(

Just get entry level stuff now and upgrade each yr or so.

For you even Amd 64 3000 could do.

But anyway if you have the money I recommend atleast X2 3800 or E6300 or atleast D930

Actually I was thinking/wanting an AM2 4600+ Windsor (or 4200 Windosr AM2), but like the sheep that I am, wanting the latest and greatest and wanting to be with the "newest thing" following the crowd! ...Thats why I am leaning towards the Conroe, but I can always go that route again????? The bottom line is I need a new rig, (with better then average upgrading potential) since my old trusty Dell 8100 went down the drain :(
