hi all, my first day on today, have been doing a lot of reading and am sarting to think my new pc has higher figures than it should have for a Stock build. I have been reading up in prep to do my 1st OC, but now think i have to work out what is wrong first.....

q6600
2gb pqi 800mhz ram
GB ds35p
Tl u120x cooler (with noctua 120mm fan)
p182 case

see my details below and tell what you think, or am i actually ok ??

These figures are without running any load, just standard pc apps...

CoreTemp v0.96.1 currently showing following info:
Rev: g0
Quad q6600
Freq: 2133.37mhz (266.67x8.0)
VID: 1.300v
Tj max: 100c
Core0: 39c
Core1: 36c
Core2: 38c
Core3: 39c

CPU-Z v1.44 shows:
Core voltage: 1.150v-1.27v
Core speed: power saving at 1600.3mhz, then at 2400mhz when in use.

any advise or info greatly appreciated...

I don't have an Intel quad, but those figures don't seem to high to me. But as a first time build, you should always check and re-check if the CPU cooler is seated correctly. Also if you used too little or even too much thermal grease.

I use Noctua's as well, and love them! I would suggest though that if your using the 800rpm version that you change to a 1200rpm, especially for a quad.

By the way I believe you will need to disable power saving/throttling when you begin to OC.

Welcome to the forums!

Your setup is pretty much mine... except the mobo. Your temps really are NOT that bad. My Q6600 G0 still idles a bit lower than yours at stock with the same HS and fan but my VID is way lower. On a good note your CPU and HS seem nice and flat as your temps are nice and close to each other... unlike mine that even after lapping the CPU and heatsink, I still get wide difs between cores.

Do you have it set in the bios for auto in regards to your voltages? At stock I can lower my vcore wayy lower than what is considered stock voltages and the system is stable and temps go down. You can play with that and try to see what works. When I leave mine on auto it tends to give more voltage than is needed, hence higher temps.

You can also try and reset the HS/fan... remove the thermal compound properly - then reapply and then try again. You would be amazed at the differences in temps you?re your HS if mounted properly. On my system I had temps that I thought were too high? while I was running Prime on all 4 cores and had the system loaded? I watched the temps. I then gently placed 2 fingers on my HS (the system was flat lying on its side) and I pushed down? applying pressure on the HS. I instantly noted temps dropping fast. I knew my HS/fan was not properly set from that and reapplied it.

Anyhow all I can say is that these quads? G0 or no G0 run hotter than dual cores. I have tried everything and simply accept the fact that there are 4 little cores running fast sitting right next to each other and they are going to put out some heat.

Also not sure but in your case the 182, you can add one or two fans at the bottom where they drive bays are. I added one and found it helped quite a bit to get more air flow in the case.

thanks guys, i will check 2omorro about my Noctua fan speed.....i may have applied a little more AS5 than i was supposed too.. ;-/

my Bios settings are standard at the moment, and voltages etc are all on auto, i think i will try the same as you and run my pc on it side and see if any pressure etc changes temps (albeit very gentle pressure.hehe)

i will also change my vcore down as u suggested, see what happens.....

thanks heaps, will keep u posted...
