The corporate IT folks are going crazy because people are demanding Mac's (laptops and desktops) and then running Windows for many of their applications that are Windows specific. It's costing them a bit more money and they end up supporting 2 OS's for end users. Corporate culture is such that many of the people demanding this stuff have a bit of power and are the employees they want to retain.

I have to give prop's to Apple's CS, didn't realize that Applecare could be ordered later as long as it's within the 1 yr warranty period the system ships
with, called to confirm this & cancel the Applecare (I'll get it later in the year)
The rep was super pleasant but the real shocker? they called me back tonight to confirm the cancellation & advise me how they would handle the refund.

Customer service from an OEM that was fast,pleasant & called back to update me? Color me impressed with Apple thus far.

If you have any affiliation with a school or major corporation, you may qualify for a significant discount on AppleCare.

Also it sells for $180 on ebay incase you don't qualify for the edu discount

FYI...Best Buy has the MBA 13" i5 w/ 128gig HD on sale for $1099 this week. Best price I've seen on it.

Enjoy it. It's a wonderful device to use.

It will actually put most users in a slightly worse off position.. Since Macs come shipped with iLife installed. A fresh install doesn't have it, and you'll have to buy a copy at that point. But if you dont need iPhoto, iMovie, or Garage Band, its not a huge loss. (Picasa fills the iPhoto void nicely)


Any yes, new Macs have TRIM enabled..

With a new Mac it really is as easy as unbox, open, turn on, USE.

I have a Vertex 3 on my MBP. Trim isn't supported with this drive. Trim Enabler probably isn't doing much else, but when I run Applejack it seems to make a difference after it trims the drive.

So your point might have meant something if she was buying an MBP and installing an aftermarket SSD in place of the spindle drive.

But she isn't...

1st Tip is to associate your Apple ID with it and go into the Mac App store and register/associate your included copies of iWork and Garage Band with your account. If you don't do this and for some reason format your system you cannot get them back without going through hoops with Apple Tech Support.

However, once you do this, you can format to your hearts content and redownload those apps for free on that system or any other Mac you use.

I really want an 11" MBA myself, but have to justify it since I already have a 15" MBP that work gave me.

Forming some impressions here, the os is actually really easy to use, I'm installing apps, have configured preferences, have my itunes etc. 2 things strike me most, things seem to be intelligently laid out, menu's and such are right where my eye naturally goes to look for them, there are so many time saving short cuts. I'm also noticing that the OS itself seems to not be in the end user's face. My old eyes also really love the dock :)
