1kw enough for this build?

Busy building my new rig and getting a GOOOOOD deal from a supplier of parts but limited to what he has in stock.

I'm building:
Corsair Obsidian Series 800D case
Watercooled CPU block
360 rad +3 fans,pump,750 res etc
8GB Corsair Dominator GT with DHX and Airflow Fan (If I go for 4 cores)
2 x GTX580's (watercooled and SLI)
Corsair 1000 Watts HX1000W PSU
128 GB Crucial C300 Series SATA III SSD
1 x 2TB HDD
Asus Xonar Essence STX PCI-E Audiophile Sound Card
NZXT fan control sentry LX meter

Might be a few tiny extras (but doubt they'll be power hungry)

I've been reading tests, benchmarks and reviews of the Corsair HX100 PSU and lots of them say that the internals are almost exactly the same as the 1.5kw Thermaltake Toughpower (which is my only option if I want 1.5kw) except for an additional power regulator.
The reviewers reckon that the Corsair is really a 1.5kw PSU but that Corsair couldn't get it above 80% efficiency so branded it as a 1kw.
I'm thinking that heat should be less of an issue for me as I'm WC'ing lots of parts but maybe an aftermarket fan might help PSU stability?

So,having said all that, will the Corsair be enough for my needs? I'd much prefer the Corsair IF it can do the job cos I don't trust Thermaltake as much.

Well my choices were between a Corsair 800HX or a 1500w Thermaltake ....I decided on the 800w but then was talked out of it.I know it doesn't need 1.5kw but it seems silly to use the 800w for 2 x GTX850's and have to run the PSU close to max.

I hope you're not getting SLI GTX580 for your 20" monitor...

The Corsair HX850 is a better quality PSU (more efficient newer design) and more than enough power for your system.

Nope, this is going to be a totally new build .....24" monitor included,I toyed with the idea of a 27" monitor but I'm pretty sure that would be too big considering I'm only sitting 2ft away from it,maybe even 18" away.

Still gonna have the 21" NEC as a socondary monitor of course.

Or what would you recommend to make the most of those gfx cards?
For an extra £100 I can get a Iiyama PLB2712HDS-B 27-inch LCD (the 24" is backlit LED).......I just get the feeling that 27" may be too big as I'm only sitting 18" to 2 ft away from it,I'm sure it woud seem like I could only see a portion of the screen at a time.

Most 27" are the same resolution as 24" so it would make no difference. The Dell U2711 would be a good fit for those GPUs @ 2560 x 1440.

I should rewrite that to be more kind worded, but honestly even with the 24" and 21" montiors, the 580s are going to be way more than needed. I would suggest either saving some money and going with some different SLI setups or going with a larger monitor that will be using more pixels (2560x#### - usually 27"+ monitors). The only problem is that one option will cost you more, while the GPU change will save you some money.

What exactly are you planning with this machine? I am going to assume gaming, but I just want to be sure.

Well I bit the bullet and ordered a Dell U2711 27" jobbie, should be here Monday. My new rig is here already and working great....just hotswapped in my old HDD's and now have 6 HDD's sitting in there transferring old data onto the new 2TB HDD (Fear not, they shall be removed once the data is transferred).

I'll post the question that just occurred to me elsewhere in the forum (if I remember) namely,What should I do with my old 500Gb Seagate Barracuda? Would it be worth using it for pagefiles and/or anything else to ease pressure (lol) elsewhere on the system.
