1gig to 2gig

Im going to upgrade my 1gig rig to 2gig but im kinda stuck, I dont know what to do. Do I sell my ram and get 2x1g dual chan, or just get a 2g stick. I was thinking just getting another 2x512mb but I dont wanna lose my dual chan. I dont even know if adding another 2x512mb will even hurt it. Let me know what I should do. Thanks

This was my question a few weeks ago. If you get another 2x512 to upgrade to 2 gigs you will have to run your RAM at 2T. Also, you will need to find out if your motherboard can handle the 4x512 configuration in a stable condition. Long story short: Go 2x1 gigs of RAM.

I have tested this theory in my own personal machine, I was running 4 X 512 PC3200 ram in my athlon 64 3000+ venice core...then I switched to 2 X 1GB and retested, the result? not very damn much difference! I estimate less than 2% change in the memory benchmarks and no difference I can tell in real world usage....so if you cant afford 2 X 1gb, then go with another 2 X 512.... I played my combat flight sims, no difference in FPS or loading time.....the memory transfer speeds were virtually identical, so I dont think this whole 1T vs 2T and 2X1GB and 4X512MB thing means squat....do what ever you can afford....thats the bottom line...

Allright, Im pry going to buy another two 512 sticks, Do they have to be the same sticks as the ones I have. I have the vx ones, I dunno if they sell those suckers anymore.
