1GIG or 2x512mb Ram for AMD64 3400+?

hello everyone.

Thanks in advance for input.

Just wondering which Ram I should get that will perform well at stock speeds and will give me a little more headroom if later I decide to go up to 1.5GIG. Somebody already suggested to get 1 GIG so if I later wanna add another stick the performance won't be jeopardized as the AMD 64 s754 seems to perform better with 2 Dimms then 3Dimms.

Is that true and would you suggest 1 GIG over 2 512's?
Will the performance decrease by using 1 GIG instead of 2 512's?

The Ram is for AMD64 3400+ (Newcastle Core) paired with Asus K8N-E Deluxe or DFI Lanparty UT nf3 250Gb. I am not going to be doing any OC'ing, just need a good and stable performer.

The link is for 1GIG Corsair Value select 2.5CL for $196.

Thank you everyone

I use the Corsair 2.5 and I like it. I do like the idea of the one stick if you are going to keep the system a while. My brother has a Lan party and in the last couple of days bought a another 512 stick to make it 1.5 GB and found out the hard way that it would only run at pc-2700 speed with DS memory. Maybe you won't have to make the choice if you can find some good single sided memory.

I think that 1Gb sticks are a good idea in a S754 rig. Many boards have issues with too many banks of ram.

I just installed my second 1Gb stick in mine, prob don't need it, but I like it.

thanks guys,
is Corsair Value Select 1GIG a decent memory to get?
How about the PDP?

I don't really wanna spent over $200 cause I am already overbudget.

Thanks
