1GHz!!!!

Picked up a P3 850E SECC2. OCed to 1GHz @120FSB 1/3 multiplier. Runs stable with the stock HSF.

I attempt to push the FSB to 124 1/4 multiplier, system will post, but Windows gives an error unable to find some startup file. Attempted to reinstall WIN2K - no luck. Receive a different message unable to find some other file. System will not even post when I set the FSB to 133MHz. I have yet to remove the HSF and add my Golden Orb - need to pick up some thermal compound. I was able to OC my P3 450 to 600 133FSB 1/4 multiplier, and with the Golden Orb.

I'm just curious, other people with P3 850, how high have you been able to push your processor.

I have a P3 500 Katmai and I can't even get it to 560MHz@112FSB without having a lock-up within 60 seconds. I suppose having crappy PC100 RAM doesn't help when I push the FSB beyond 100MHz.

I know what you mean, katmai's are horrible overclocking chips. I have a PIII 450 and when I run it at 124FSB @ 558 it locks up minutes within UT. I have proper cooling, artic silver, bad a$$ heatsink and still no luck.

I have a P3 450 that does 630MHz on a 140MHz bus. It's just laying in a box somewhere in my room now. Ever since that CPU, I've never had a CPU on a sub 140MHz bus.

Congrats on hitting 1 Gig!

However, are you running a 1/3 or a 1/4 multiplier? If 1/3 then good luck, because you're gonna need it. (40 MHz is not a good idea for the PCI bus.)

Popped on my golden orb on my P3 850. BTW, that case screw to remove the stock HSF really works. That popping sound to remove the stock HSF is cool. I was able reuse the stock HSF on my old P3 450.

Anyway, with the golden orb on the P3 850, I am able to load into WIN2K a little bit further, but will still crash before fully entering WIN2K. Won't know if the golden orb will help OC my processor more until I attempt to reinstall WIN2K.

One last question/comment - why is everyone sharing their P3 450 OC success, I want P3 850 results.
