1Ghz CPU posts as 533EB. Please help

Subject kinda says it all. I got an Intel 815EEA motherboard and a 1GHz chip, but the machine is booting up saying its a 533EB chip. I've flashed the BIOS but no go. Any ideas?

did you try downloading wcpuid and seeing what it reports? You can get it from www.h-oda.com

Try setting it manually for what it is. Set the FSB at 100 or 133MHz, depending on which model it is.
This has been happening to me on Asus cusl2's also.

The Intel mobo won't let me manipulate the FSB. I can't get at that at all.

The Intel frequency ID utility says 533 as well. Where can I find something that will help me read the numbers on the chip?

Are you sure it`s a 1GHz CPU?

There has to be a spec code on the chip...Intel does not make them any other way.

Is it fc-pga?
It should be in a black strip on the front of the chip.

That is not on the spec sheet and has too many digits. They should be 5, not 6.

I think you need to call Intel and verify what you have. Could it be an engineering sample?

Where did you get it, if you don't mind saying?

I believe it does. Now, the irony to it is, that it's probably unlocked and the board he is using is probably not going to read the cpu properly. Now, if you were to put that into a board where you have control, of the multiplier and fsb, then it will probably work fine.
