What were some of the methods by which engineers were able to operate Cat-5 at 1Gbps when it was standarized to 100Mbps?

Yes, it's a homework question, but we are allowed to ask people.....

ah, i guess i was wrong, since it was only "being considered" as of 2 years ago. I assume by now it should be standardized though...
