I have a choice of either 1gb pc2100 vs 512mb pc2700 to be used with my laptop (aopen 1557, 40gb -5400, 128-9700 and 1.6 dothan) which do you think will be better? I use it for either basic browsing or games, is the increased memory needed to avoid disk access or is the extra memory bandwidth a better boost. I ran 3dmark2001 and i got very little difference and around 10700 (3d03 give 3000).

I he 855 chipsets don't even support 2700 ddr right now.
You are much better off with a gig of 2100/266 vs 512 2700.
That 2700 spec. is just a marketing trick.

Um, wrong.
All 855's support PC2700/DDR333 and I think all except the cheapest notebooks come with it. As far as the size differences go, I would PROBABLY say the 1GB is the better choice. However, I would try both (it sounds like you have both on hand or something) and see what you like. Ideally, you want to use PC2700. But its up to you. Maybe sell the 1GB ;) and buy a 256MB PC2700 to go with your 512. ;)

big price difference between the 1 gig and 512. Hell if he has the choice, why not take the 1 gig. If he has both, toss them in together and have a 1.5 gig ram 2100 system

1 GB is definetly better than 512 of faster memory. I find myself using about 280-350 at any given time in Windows.
