1gb only Reading 512mb?

I just got 2 512 mb sticks of corsair value select. My motherboard isn't dual channel. My bios doesn't boot up and show me how much ram i have. But Windows and CPUZ both show as having 512mb of ram only. The total should be 1024. But cpuz shows that i have 2 identical sticks. What is up with that. Is this normal?

What Windows are you running?

Win98 and ME only use and show 512 i think, unless you do a small tweak in a system file.

Ok Nevermind i figured it out. Tab and esc don't work on my bios. But unplugging the keyboard does. ;-)

Anyways, even though my mother board isn't dual channel. You can't run two identical stick next to each other. They have to be a space apart. Or the motherboard recognizes it as one or something.
