1GB microSD card... are there 1GB microSDHC cards?

I'm pretty sure all SD cards sold today are SDHC or better. Class 4 is pretty slow though. About 4MB/s.

I don't know why you'd need one that small. You can get 4GB name-brand cards from Newegg for only about $4. They had 16GB Class 10 MicroSD cards on sale for $10.

typically
SD = anything 4GB or smaller*
SDHC = 4GB to 32GB
SDXC = 64GB and higher

* most 4GB cards are SDHC...some minority 4GB cards are SD.

older devices may only support SD, or get SDHC support via a firmware update.
If a device supports SDHC, you might be able to use a 64GB SDXC card formatted in FAT32 (4GB single file size limit though)

I wouldn't buy flash memory from ebay (exception: only if it's from something like Tigerdirect/BestBuy via ebay)

You meant TB though yes?

We are up to 512GB SDcards and 200GB microSDcards.

What device is it?

I think all sd cards are backwards compatible. They may require formatting if the supplied file system isn't supported, but should otherwise work; possibly not to full capacity if using a huge card.

Edit:
btw, 1gb is a bad size to get. Your paying extra per gb for the small size. 16gb is probably the sweet spot for value, and I'd expect to pay ~50¢/gb

nope. some of the really really old SD-only devices cannot read SDHC/SDXC

(holding a GPS device that only reads SD-only... had to hunt for that special 4GB SD-only card to hold all the maps I need)

1GB of unbranded class 4 mystery memory = bad idea

Yes it's twice the price but I'd rather buy this from a reputable vendor.

What device do you plan on using this in? Cell phone, GPS, MP3, etc.?

Or this http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-microSDHC-Memory-SDC4-8GBET/dp/B00200K1TS/
It's a Callaway uPro G1 golf GPS. It came with a 1GB microSD card. Callaway has terminated support for the device as of Dec. 31, 2014. I talked to several of their customer support reps while they still supported it. I was told that it can't use SDHC cards, and my experiments confirm this. 1GB is too small to hold all the data I have for it (I downloaded a lot of courses before they shut down the website). They sent me extra 1GB cards and I have courses divied up between the cards, but I lost one. I have the courses saved on HD, but of course they have to be on a card to work in the device. So, I want to buy another 1GB card. I tried a 2GB microSD card and it does work but it takes the device a long time to boot with that card in it, and my experience so far in running on the 2GB card hasn't been good. It shut down inexplicably, so I switched to a 1GB card. I should experiment further using the 2GB card, because all the courses fit on it, maybe it was a one-time glitch that caused it to shut down.

RossMAN, those cards you link wouldn't work in it because they are microSDHC. I tried with an 8GB card and it failed to boot.

Link? Maybe if I had the right 4GB card it would work. Even 2GB is probably big enough. The 2GB card I have now appears to be a no-name (don't see a brand on it), made in Taiwan. I got it at Amazon a year ago. It was claimed to be Sandisk on the order but it doesn't say that on the card. It was supplied by an Amazon 3rd party, Planet Mobile. Maybe a better quality 2-4GB microSD card would work in it.

Well, I found the missing 1GB microSD card, so problem solved. It still would be nice if I could find a 2-4GB microSD card that would work in the device. Then I wouldn't have to swap out the card occasionally.

Find someone with a digital camera. Odds are a tiny microSD came with the camera.

well, my device uses full-size SD, won't help with your microSD problem

also, from the link below, it says that the device will only use 1GB even if the card is 2GB?

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/ggl-golf-/SqOZ5ar7o9o

SD card: 1GB micro SD card preferred, 2GB micro SD card also works but unit will only use 1GB worth on it.

someone got it working here though, using the whole 2GB card:

if you really want to, newegg's 2GB microSD store: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0446076&PID=6156307&SID=i90c8gohit00t0mr00053

note that some products may be mislabeled... <=2GB, you should be fine. 4GB SDHC might be mis-labeled as 4GB SD

eg: this product explicitly says it's 4GB non-HC... but it's full-size SD... and some reviews say it's identified as HC. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA12K0EZ8257

eg: there's a review for 2gb microSD that says it's non-HC...

That someone is me! Notice, poster has same handle, Muse. Yep, I really made a project out of extending the usefulness of this GPS. I should have gotten on the project sooner because as it got closer to the Dec. 31, 2014 deadline (support terminated, website down, no longer could download courses), the site would go down, sometimes for almost a week! They were cool enough to leave the site up for a few days after the deadline and I continued to download courses. If I had gotten on the project a couple months before I could have snagged a lot more.

That info about only 1GB of a 2GB card working in the GPS is erroneous.

Some of the Callaway CSR's I talked to were more expert than the others. They explained that you could copy downloaded courses from the GPS to your computer HDs, thereby effectively extending the capacity limit of courses. So, I ultimately have more courses to choose from than will fit on a 1GB card. I can copy courses from HD to the card, whatever courses I want to be available on the GPS.

Sigh. Well, I did get the 2GB card working in it, all the courses on it are accessible. The GPS would take twice as long to boot, I think it's because it had to read some of the XML course data for all the courses into its memory before completing the boot process, and there are a lot more courses on the 2GB card. It's not a big deal as long as the unit works OK once booted. What I didn't realize at the time was that the unit wouldn't work properly on the course. I tried it one time only and it shut down on me unexpectedly. I will experiment with it further, maybe it will behave. The unit does occasionally do unexpected things, especially if it doesn't like the battery.

Looking at the 2GB card I have today I see that on the front it does not say Sandisk and the page for the listing at Amazon shows a card that does say Sandisk on the front. I should have complained when I got the card, I didn't notice that at the time.

On the back my card says:

MMAGR02GUECA-MB
1 YDJ255GA 144
Made in Taiwan

Thanks for the links and support. I hadn't seen that Google Groups support post, I'm bookmarking it, there may be something in it I can use. I'm fairly expert using this thing, at least in terms of most of that stuff about dealing with it after their support terminated, but I may have missed some important info.

Newegg does seem to have some cards of interest. Here's just one:

Kingston 2GB MicroSD Flash Card w/ SD Adapter Model SDC/2GB. $4.95 shipped. Well, for that I might just go for it and hope. At least it will say Kingston, I hope! I don't know that Kingston is likely to be as good (or better?) as Sandisk, but what I have doesn't have a brand name on it at all and I have to suspect it's not so hot. I could complain to Amazon, it's been more than a year, don't know if it's worth the trouble.

I called Amazon and they credited me the ~$5 that I paid for the presumably Sandisk 2GB microSD card I ordered in Mar. 2014. I just ordered another such card, including adapter for ~$7.40 off Amazon. Hopefully, the GPS will work with it. I figure it's worth a try. A little online searching revealed that Sandisk is highly regarded. The Kingston may be as good, some say it is, but some say that Kingston is often basically generic, so I'm going with Sandisk.
