ATI's boards had same Hynix memory that Nvidia was using for its lowest-cost 8800, the 8800GTS 320MB.

With the first wave of cards being distributed into the hands of OEMs and early adopters, custom products have begun to appear here in Taipei. Sapphire decided to do nothing less than putting the very same GDDR4 memory that can be found on X1950XTX graphics cards.

WE LEARNED THAT at least one system vendor has started to sell R600 cards with 1GB of GDDR-4 memory.

Maingear, a vendor of premium gaming systems, is selling systems with a 1GB card.

The price difference between 512MB GDDR-3 and 1GB of GDDR-4 memory is around 110 US Dollars, and you can get two in Crossfire, thus ending up with 2GB of video memory in a single system.
ending up with 2GB of video memory in a single system. When did that change?

ATI IS GOING to be launching the 1GB version of the 2900XT really soon.

Theo pointed out that it is available now, and vendors at Computex tell me the launch is the 14th +/- a few days. Basically look for it in about a week.
