1GB 128X72 ECC DIMM PC100 SDRAM on Irogate!

Just got one 1GB 128X72 PC100 SDRAM-100MHZ ECC REG DIMM CL2, Kingston memory for 20.00$ on dell. But my HP pavilion support only 2*256M DIMM PC100 memory. Irongate Chipset.
what will happen if I put it on my computer if:

a. put is on only in slot 1;
b. put is on in slot 2, while have the orginal 128M in slot 1?

will it be viewed as 258M mem by the system?
