I'm looking for a cheap dedicated server host, and so far I've found 1and1.com. The Root Server I package is interesting, for $49/mo with a $99 setup fee. What I'm looking for is SSH access, and the ability to host not only a webserver but be able to IRC from the box and other things. Anyone have any experience with them or other dedicated services?

I really would not suggest them. They're support is one of the worst :(. If you are looking for a dedicated box check out the dedicated offers forum on webhostingtalk.com

I got in on the free deal from 1and1 posted in hot deals last year. Granted I do jack with the webspace, but I've got SQL database, ssh, ftp, email addies, 500 MB space and 1 GB/month bandwidth and it was all free.
