1999 Corolla SRS light

Would there be a reason for my SRS light on my toyota to be on all the time? Could it be a short?

Maybe, but I'd bet big money on huge odds it's not. Bring it to autozone or advance auto parts and tell them your check engine light is on and ask to have it scanned. They do this all the time, and it is free. Alternatively, bring it to toyota and have them do the exact same thing and charge you an hour of labor.

srs is for the airbag system, if i remember correct. the code reader may not read it. at least on mine it didn't when the airbag light came on after i got rear ended without them deploying.

SRS is the airbag.

I know on my vehicle (92 Accord), Honda recommends replacing the airbag every 10 years (assuming you haven't been in a collision in that time).

Since your Corolla is now 10 years old, this is something to look into, assuming the car has never been in a collision.

Your car probably isn't worth as much as the airbag. From what I heard they ran about 5000 or so.

Edit - Scratch that. Costs vary depending on the car. Depends on the installer.

5000 that is insane..
Steering wheel w/ airbag goes for 500 for an average japanese car (if you can install it)

It is very weird. I just did a quick search and read a lot about Corollas that were being recalled because of this. I haven't taken it to Autozone yet. Do you think their computer will read it? I made an appointment with Toyota and see what they tell me.

A bit about the car: I just bought it off of this guy that had lost his job. He said it had salvaged title due to "attempted theft." They fucked up the ignition trying to steal it so there was no collision. I couldn't let this pass for $2800, especially since i'm poor with school going on.

Hopefully someone knows a bit about this issue.

just saying since it is an airbag/electrical issue nothing to do with engine...i take it no one has experienced this
