What kind of life mileage maximums can be expected for these? This happens to be a kind of car I like aesthetically(which means, even if I could buy a 2012 equivalent, which I can't, I'd still be asking about this model).

I see a lot around here for between $8500 and $12500 with mileages ranging from 130,000 to 190,000. Do they drop dead at 200,000 miles or what?

I have seen a few make it into the 200s. I wouldnt balk at one with receipts in the low 100Ks. Even at 150 you got alot of life. Keep in mind big stuff is gonna happen like suspension and racks and head gaskets and the like.

A decent aftermarket warranty in the 3 year range could soften the blow if your not handy.

It it powered by the Camry v6 just tweaked out or a whole new motor. That would be key for me. If parts come off of many other cars then parts will be cheap.

its the camry motor. the 1mz Fe that was used on many v6s of that vintage. we have a 2007 and the car is great all around

My aunt has a 2002 with about 130K miles and it has been generally reliable. As one might expect from a Lexus, it still looks great inside and out. I didn't know about the transmission issues - that has not arisen with her car.

Good and bad. More good as its a COMMON engine. Cheap to fix and repair. Bad is early years its been known to be a sludger. And given how much people who own lexus models are exactly auto enthusiast, they might of not done oil changes on time. Still not a bad point at all. Almost every mechanic should know how to work on 1mz/5sfe

Yep. Major transmission problems in those years.

This is probaly the weakest point on the car. I dont know much on toyota tranny issues. Honda couldn't make a v6 tranny around those years but never heard too much from toyota. Wonder how much diffrent a FWD RX300 is from a camry v6/es300. If you can swap trans in that, then another plus.

I know my aunt had one. THey aren't the DIY type nor do they the type of offer to pay me or take me out to eat for working on their cars so i didn't look into that RX much. But they had some issues with it and traded it in.
